Greece has the prefect mix of Sun, sand and sea! It has over 13000km of coastline and with an average water temperature in the summer of 25°C
it is the perfect place to enjoy a week exploring underwater.
And with such an impressive coastline, what better way to make the most of your time than on a yacht, avoid the cramped planes and ferries while island hoping and do it in style. Imagine sailing from island to island and snorkelling whenever you spot something amazing. With your own yacht rental you can plan your own itinerary and explore some of the lesser-known but equally amazing islands.
Naxos
The reason people visit this island is for the Mermaid’s Cave. This is an ancient cavern with a concealed under water entrance. If you are more interested in wreck diving then you could also explore the cargo ship that sunk during a storm in 1982.
Above water, there is plenty to see and do in the evening including a visit to the huge marble Gate of the Temple of Apollo. Building began in the 6th century BC but was never actually finished!

Mykonos
Most dive centres are based in the south of the island where there are plenty of dive sites to explore. You could easily spend a week just diving the different places off the coast of Mykonos. One of the most popular and recommended sites is Prasonisia, if you are short on time make sure you add this one to your list, it’s not to be missed.
On land make sure you visit The Windmills overlooking little Venice. They were built in the 16th Century and of course look great at sunset!
Santorini
The volcano is one of the most famous of Santorini’s dive sites. It boasts volcanic rock formations and a shipwreck. The volcano walls are full of beautiful sponges and corals, which act as a home for a huge variety of marine life including the occasional large Grouper. The shipwreck is only 13m deep so perfect for the second dive of the day and less experienced divers. You can actually swim into the wreck and explore the inside as well as the outside.
Out of the water Santorini is described as Greece’s most beautiful island and it’s easy to see why, it’s incredibly picturesque. You can spend your evenings watching the sunset over the gorgeous water and feel completely relaxed after a good days diving!
Marathonisi, Turtle Island
This has to be on everyone’s scuba diving itinerary. The uninhabited island of Marathonisi is the birthplace of giant loggerhead turtles. If you go underwater here you are very likely to spot the loggerhead turtles swimming around as well lots of other under water wildlife.
One of the closest inhabited islands is Zakynthos – this is a beautiful island that also has an interesting shipwreck beach – which is supposedly one of the most photographed beaches in the world.
Sailing around all these islands means you can get there before the crowds and be the first in the water, every divers dream.
