Our 2017 Travel Plans

by admin on February 17, 2017

Writing out our travel plans for the year is usually a very simple task, the biggest challenging is keeping the list short enough that it’s realistic. This year it’s a little different, we’ve taken on a couple of extra projects and we’re both working flat out behind the scenes to try and make them work.

How has that affected our travel planning? We have nothing booked.

With no idea how busy we’re going to be it’s hard to commit to set travel plans and get too excited about any particular trip. Will our projects flop and mean our holidays are nothing but wild camping to avoid unnecessary costs or will we be flying off around the world in a private jet? (that’s never going to happen).

The Ideal 2017 Year in Travel

Skiing

Despite our busy schedule. I’ve already enjoyed a week in the mountains of Romania thanks to a trip that was planned months ago with a friend. The ski resort of Poiana Brasov far exceeded my expectations and with the cost of flights to Romania being so cheap, along with food, drink and accommodation, Romania should definitely be considered by more people when it comes to a short skiing break.

Hopefully I’ll get another few days of skiing in before the temperatures rise and the snow disappears.

Family Getaway

We can’t go a single month it seems these days without having someone fly out to visit us, which is one of the main reasons we wanted to live in Europe this time. With flights being so cheap most people gave already been our once to explore Romania so it’s time to start taking them elsewhere.

This year we’ll be taking our regular visitors south to Bulgaria. With Bucharest sitting just an hour north of the Bulgarian border it’s almost too close not to go. Old towns steeped with history, impressive mountain landscapes and sandy beaches, Bulgaria has lots to offer and hopefully we’ll get a chance to explore it all throughout the year.

Last Minute Summer Deal

I’m sure our summer will be filled with the usual sort of adventures, packing up the car and camping around parts of Romania that we’ve never visited before but there’s also a very different type of week away I’d like this year. Sometime during the summer I’m going to hop online and book a last minute holiday to somewhere sunny and surrounded by water.

It’s been too long since we last went scuba diving and I’m determined to not let another year pass without getting suited up and rolling backwards off a boat.

The Big Three Zero

I’m not usually one to celebrate my birthday at all, there is nothing enjoyable about getting older but with myself and three of my best friends turning 30 this year it only seems right to do it in style. In typical fashion, we have lots of conversations about how much fun it will be but have so far planned absolutely nothing.

I’m not so secretly hoping that our birthday celebrations end up in Lisbon. It’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to go and offers the perfect mixture of things to do (lay on the beach all day) and nightlife.

Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time to get back to work and make sure I actually have the time to go on all these trips!
