What can you do in Zurich

by admin on March 25, 2014

Zurich is the biggest city in Switzerland and I would quite possibly say it’s also the most beautiful. There have been people settle around lake Zurich for nearly 2000 years so there is plenty of history to soak up in the city.

Switzerland should be on your list in fact travelling by rail Europe is possibly the best way to see this continent. You can easily travel from one country to the next in a matter of hours. There are plenty of things to see and do in and around Zurich.  If you are thinking travelling to Switzerland there is currently a deal  deal on interrailing on Rail Europe with 15% off the usual price with 15% off the usual price. Tempted? Here’s some tips for what you can do in Zurich.

Visit the top of Europe

The highest mountain in Europe is a couple of hours away from Zurich. There are plenty of tour operators which will organise a day trip. Head up Jungfraujoch and get the bragging rights to being at the highest point in the whole of Europe. The views are amazing!

If that didn’t satisfy your appetite for climbing go up Uteliberg which has 360 degree view from a pretty tall viewing tower. This will let you see Zurich and the surrounding countryside and you can get some amazing pictures!

Skiing

If you have the time Zurich is a great place to base yourself – the best thing is you can get a snow and rail ticket and go off for the day. The closest resort is Flumserberg which has a range of pistes for beginners to experts. There are also plenty of other resorts that are within an hour of Zurich including Reigoldswil, Einsiedeln and Emmetten.

Lake or river cruise

This is a great way to see a different side to Zurich. I think it is the best way to see some of the main landmarks and of course get some lovely pictures across the water. After going on the lake have a walk along the promenade too.

Wander around the old town

One of the best tips I can give you is get yourself lost for a couple of hours in the old town. Look at all the different buildings and drag yourself up Linenhof hill which used to the location of an old Roman Fort.
