Welcome to round 95 of ‘Meet a Random Traveller’. The series dedicated to bringing attention to fantastic people all around the world doing their thing.
Random Traveller #96
Who are you?
We are Sam and Zab, a British couple from London who left on one-way tickets to Buenos Aires in January 2013 to travel together. We’re currently in Ecuador.

Whats the deal?
We blog to chronicle our journey, share our experiences and inspire and connect with others. Food is a central part of our travels, and we keep a keen eye out for vegetarian, organic and locally produced food wherever possible. Every month, we also share everything we spend in our monthly reports, partly because Zab is a numbers geek and because we both found it very useful to read about what other travellers were spending when planning our trip, so we wanted to pass it along. And of course, we write about the good and the bad of all the places we visit and try not to sugarcoat anything.
Have you ever been anywhere you expected to love but was left feeling disappointed?
Yes, Uruguay. Our 10 day visit to Uruguay was sandwiched between our time in Argentina and we really didn’t enjoy the country that much, though we wanted to, because we’d heard many lovely things about it. Looking back, we realise that a large part of why it didn’t live up to expectations was the weather: we were there in March, the very tail end of the summer season so beaches were not really on the cards. We fortunately did have a lovely experience couchsurfing in Montevideo at the end of our time there with a couple who we’ve kept in touch with and hope to see again some time.

If you could have any super power to impress other travellers what would it be?
Teleportation. Think of all the time and money saved on transport! But then I suppose you’d loose a lot of the experience of travelling: the long bus rides staring out the window at the changing landscapes, the twinge of excitement you get before boarding a plane or the satisfaction of catching a train you’ve sprinted to get to in time. Even superpowers would have their downsides!
If you weren’t travelling what would you be doing right now?
Sam would be teaching English, probably in Spain or Austria, as those were the last places he worked before we left for South America and Zab would probably still be working for his family business.

What’s next?
We’ll be finishing up our time in South America at the end of November after just over 10 months on the continent and heading back to Europe [http://www.indefiniteadventure.com/exciting-plans-new-direction/]. Sam will be doing some more English teaching and online projects and Zab will work on various location dependent projects and some online business ideas of his own, though we will be mixing that up with travel to Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands and no doubt several other places we haven’t committed to yet (Portugal, and in particular Lisbon is high on that list!). By the end of 2014, we’re hoping to be on our way to Asia, which will be a first for Zab.
A big thanks to Sam and Zab for taking part. Check them out here:
