Welcome to round 98 of ‘Meet a Random Traveller’. The series dedicated to bringing attention to fantastic people all around the world doing their thing.
Random Traveller #98
Who are you?
My name is Stacey, and I’m originally from Christchurch, New Zealand. After leaving NZ when I was 21 I lived in the US for two years, Australia for ten months, and I’ve now been living in Chiang Mai, Thailand for the last month. I usually travel non-stop for a few months and then settle down somewhere so I can meet some locals and find a new favorite café before wanderlust sends me packing again.

What’s the deal?
I blog at www.onetravelsfar.com. My blog name Onetravelsfar comes from the Tolkien quote “Little by little, one travels far.” And it really sums up the way I like to travel. I enjoy being an expat and traveling slowly through different countries so I can really get to know them.
A lot of the time people read my blog to find out what not to do as I often find myself in some pretty weird situations. Onetravelsfar also has a large focus on adventure travel, as I love scuba diving and white water rafting, and if there’s a bridge to jump off I’m going to do it.
Mostly I blog to help motivate and support people who want to do what I’m did-quit their jobs to travel the world. Deciding to travel full-time was the best thing I ever did, and I went traveling with only $3000 in the bank. I’ve managed to survive through freelance writing and picking up odd jobs like babysitting.
If you hadn’t become addicted to travelling what do you think you’d be doing now?
If I hadn’t become addicted to traveling I probably would have joined the police force! I hate routine and get bored easily so I think I’d like a career where I could be doing something different every day. I think it would be a rewarding but very stressful job.
If you had to settle down somewhere tomorrow where would it be and why?
I’m nowhere near ready to settle down but if I absolutely had to, it would probably be in Melbourne, Australia. Two of my best friends in the world live there, and it’s close enough to New Zealand that I could fly home to visit family. It’s also a seriously cool city, although bloody cold in winter!

If you could have one super-power to impress other travellers what would it be?
If I could have one superpower it would be the ability to click my fingers and have my backpack packed, with everything exactly where it needs to go.
I don’t know why I do it, but to this day I still somehow manage to spread my belongings out everywhere no matter where I am. Every single time I get somewhere new I tell myself I’m going to contain my crap to one spot and it never happens.
I then end up waking up late, packing my bag in a rush (with lots of swearing) and inevitably end up leaving something behind. I loathe packing
What’s Next?
Who knows? I’m a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kinda girl, and I’m really enjoying living in Chiang Mai at the moment. My mums coming over to visit me for Christmas and I’m going to show her Cambodia-my favorite country. I’m then going to take a trip to Vietnam, and I’m also hoping to end up in Europe at some stage in the near future.
A big thanks to Stacey for taking part, great to have you.

Ha, laughed out loud when I read that you’d like to be able to pack your backpack with a snap of your fingers. I can so relate! We usually only stay at night or two in one place, but somehow Danielle and I consistently manage to cover our hostel floors with all of our stuff. Love love love this series, and will definitely check out Stacy’s blog!
